CONSCIOUS, CONNECTED PARENTING

This workshop draws from attachment theory, Emotion Coaching, and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy treatments that are aimed at addressing disruptive behaviour in children. You will learn how to connect with your child in a way that fosters deeper understanding, enhances attachment, and creates parent-child cooperation. The reasons behind children’s behaviour come from a number of sources, but the ways to address them are simple and logical if they are applied with consistency and predictability. We will focus on positive discipline strategies, including how to pay more attention to children when they are behaving well, than when they are not. By the end of the workshop, you will know how to:

  • Connect with your child through specialized attachment-focused, self-esteem-boosting playtime in just 5 to 10 minutes per day

  • Respond appropriately to emotional meltdowns and co-regulate with your child

  • Transform negative, attention-seeking behaviours to positive, praiseworthy changes in your child

  • Effectively choose when your child is able to learn from their behaviour and when they are not.

You are invited to a Zoom webinar.

When: Jan 19, 2022 07:30 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)

GUIDING BIG FEELINGS Strong emotions are a part of life, and there are lots of ways we can manage these emotional weather systems that sometimes catch us off-guard. In this workshop we will:

  • Look at the ways our brains are wired to get upset, and how everyone in the family can learn how to return to a place of calm and self-control

  • Explore simple mindfulness practices to build the brain pathways to inner calm

  • Look a little deeper at parent triggers and the ways to work around them.

Parents are important models to their children. Demonstrating and teaching self-regulation and how to handle strong feelings is one of the most powerful skills that help prepare children for life. Drawing from brain research, Emotion Coaching, mindful breathing, and attachment literature, Counsellor Kate will present a workshop full of practical strategies, with an invitation for greater self-awareness, in an environment of non-judgement.

BUILDING SIBLING HARMONY The sibling relationship is a lifelong journey and there are lots of things parents can do to reduce conflict and increase harmony at home. In this practical session Counsellor Kate will cover the following topics: - Normalizing sibling conflict - Ways to prevent rivalry - Supporting individuality & avoiding comparison - Alternatives to punishment & forced apologies - Managing our reactions - Determining when & how to intervene - Developing a plan of action that fits for your family
